Frequently asked questions
Questions, answered properly.
01 The Motorcycle
The Motorcycle
- Is Commander a motorcycle or a scooter?
- A motorcycle. It has 17 inch wheels, a 150 kg kerb weight, a full-size roadster frame and a conventional riding triangle. It is built to the proportions of a 150cc to 200cc petrol motorcycle.
- What is the top speed?
- 90 kmph.
- How quick is it off the line?
- Commander delivers 170 Nm of torque from zero rpm, which means acceleration away from a signal is immediate. There is no clutch and no gears.
- Do I need a licence?
- Yes. Commander is a full-speed electric motorcycle and requires a valid motorcycle driving licence and registration.
02 Battery and charging
Battery and charging
- How far does it go on one charge?
- 125 km certified range. Real-world range depends on your riding mode, speed, load, terrain and traffic, and is typically 10 to 25 percent lower than the certified figure. That is true of every electric vehicle, ours included.
- How long does charging take?
- Four hours for a full charge from a standard household socket, or two and a half hours with fast charging.
- Do I need to install a special charger?
- No. Commander charges from a normal domestic socket. A properly earthed dedicated socket is recommended for safety.
- What does a full charge cost?
- Approximately ₹33, based on 4.4 units of electricity at ₹7.50 per unit.
- Why LiFePO4 instead of regular lithium-ion?
- Lithium Iron Phosphate is more thermally stable, handles Indian summer temperatures better and delivers more usable charge cycles. It costs more and weighs more. We think it is worth both.
- Can I charge it in the rain?
- The electrical architecture is IP65 rated against dust and water jets. As with any electrical device, do not connect or disconnect the charger with wet hands, and charge under cover.
03 Cost and ownership
Cost and ownership
- What does Commander cost?
- ₹1,75,000* ex-showroom, before applicable subsidies and road tax benefits.
- What is the running cost per kilometre?
- Approximately ₹0.26 per km on electricity, compared to roughly ₹2.22 per km for a petrol motorcycle averaging 45 kmpl.
- What maintenance does it need?
- No engine oil, no clutch, no gearbox service and no spark plugs. Routine maintenance is limited to brakes, tyres, battery health checks and software updates.
